How to Use Instagram to Find your Target Audience

Social media has become a daily part of our lives.

From checking Instagram stories to posting on its feed and much more, it has become a great place to establish a brand.

Not only that, but authors can promote their work and connect with readers and fellow creators via Instagram.

In this article, we talk about how to use Instagram to FIND your target audience.

In order to know if Instagram is the right place to find your target readers, you need to know who they are. Where are they most likely to hang out on the internet?

Instagram has over 1 billion active users every month and over 500 million active users daily with an average age demographic of under 35.

So if you’re target readers are below 35 then maybe Instagram is the platform for you.

Let’s consider some other factors

finding your target audience

Instagram is a reader’s paradise, which means that you want to tailor your content strategy to target those readers.

You can do so by creating videos, story highlights, and guides that relate to your content and in a fun way.

Host Giveaways

To gain quite a few followers and comments you can host giveaways. This boosts engagement which no doubt will throw your content out to a wider audience.

I see many authors buying tons of books and then throwing giveaways to get their followers to follow them and join the contest. This really helps with building relationships with your ideal readers because you are benefiting them in some way.

Stories & Highlights

If you want to build a relationship with your ideal audience you need to make the most out of your Instagram stories.

Create story templates or use the ones available in Canva and adapt them to your brand and save the best ones for story highlights.

Instagram has a lot of features that you can take advantage of.

Carousels & Single Posts

You can publish carousels and single posts to your account which appears in your main feed.

Interactive Stories

Authors can use stories that are only available for 24 hours to create interactive content such as quizzes, countdowns, and polls.

By adding your stories to the story highlights section, you can now keep your stories permanently on your profile.

IG Reels

The latest addition to Instagram is the Instagram reels which allow you to create 30-second videos that are highly engaging and very entertaining.

IGTV videos which are longer and can run from 15 minutes to 60 minutes allow you to produce video content such as Q&As and interviews.

You can create a series under your IGTV videos and post a preview to your Instagram feed so that your target readers can watch.

Another useful piece of content are guides. These story-like pieces of content allow users to get information on topics and step-by-step tutorials.

Instagram is a great place to find your target readers and build relationships with them.

Remember to keep it real, show up and give your followers exactly what they want.
